Skulking around Hackney and feeling a bit peckish? Then let us nudge you in the direction of Eline, a new restaurant not far from Hoxton Overground Station.
Named after the grandmother of co-founder and chef Alex Reynolds, Eline offers a touch of French-inspired food along with natural and low-intervention wines. Reynolds has spent the past decade cooking in London restaurants, such as Fenchurch, Hide, Seven Park Place and Pophams. The latter is also where the other co-founder Maria Viviani worked as a baker following stints in 108 in Copenhagen and as a pastry chef in Mostrador Santa Teresita in Uruguay before becoming immersed in the world of natural wine.
At Eline, Alex and Maria offer seasonally-focused dinners on an à la carte menu that changes monthly and may include
- Whipped chicken liver parfait, pear and grape chutney
- Barbecued mackerel, salsify and endive
- Venison tartare, celeriac and smoked hazelnuts
- Coco de Paimpol agnolotti, chanterelles and celeriac broth
- Religeuse, peanut gianduja, banana ice cream & chocolate sauce
If you’re intrigued by the pours from small wineries (mostly continental but some UK offerings) served with your meal, then you can peruse Kimchi’s Wine Shop during the day, named after Alex and Maria’s dog. The shop also sells natural English ciders as well.
