It's all go in Chinatown with the latest new opening being one of China's big chain restaurants (there are over 5000 of them), ZhangLiang Malatang.
It's a serve yourself Sichuan restaurant, with mala tang soup as the base.
Just browse and select the ingredients which, overseas, range from options like crab legs, fish balls and seafood sausages through to vegetables or noodles. You then bring it to the counter to choose the soup. Options vary everywhere, but they have included the original mala beef soup (the spiciest), chicken and tomato - and they'll cook it all up for you while you grab a stool and wait. When ready, add your final touch from the condiments section - onions or chilli oil - and you're done.
It's very popular overseas, so probably worth popping down to check it out.
