It's most regularly described as "one of the last bastions of Old Soho" and certainly Andrew Edmunds on Lexington Street appears on pretty much every guide to eating out in Soho, ours included. Dark and candlelit, it was equally the kind of place to have the longest of lunches, or the most romantic of dates.
So it's with sadness we note the passing of the restaurant's founder and namesake this week, who died at the age of 79 after a short illness. Critics and customers alike were quick to respond over the past few days to the news:
So sorry to hear that the art dealer and restaurateur Andrew Edmunds has died. A true pillar of Soho. I've been recommending the lovely restaurant that carries his name to people for years.

So sorry to hear about Andrew Edmunds: the best kind of restaurateur, in it for the love of it. May his restaurant live on in his memory, unchanged and one-off 🖤

We are heartbroken for Andrew's family. He has been an incredible friend to all things Soho and his contribution to the @sohofoodfeast

Andrew Edmunds was the most congenial host, and his was the first restaurant where I did the segue from lunch to dinner, no judgement, Plenty of bread. RIP.

The restaurant was shut for a few days following the news but is expected to reopen today.
