A Hot Dinners exclusive
Ever since top taco folk Sonora Taqueria dropped the news on Instagram that they were leaving their home in Netil Market, London's Mexican food lovers have been wondering when and indeed where they'll be getting their next Sonora fix from. Well we can now reveal what their plans are.
From later this month, Sonora's co-founders Michelle Salazar de la Rocha and Sam Napier will be launching a new place, Mexa, at the Arcade Food Hall at Centre Point. Billed as a mash-up between a taqueria and a seafood place, the new restaurant will serve up a mixture of old favourites and new dishes that you won't have tried before.
The seafood sounds extremely enticing with two key offerings - ceviche and Agua chile. As Sam explains: "Ceviche de lobina (of seabass) is from a recipe passed down through Michelle’s family. Tostadas will be topped with a thin layer of creamy mayo, cold lime-cured sea bass ceviche, avocado and salsa negra." If that isn't enough to get your stomach rumbling (and it if it isn't are you really a Hot Dinners reader?) then how about the aqua chile prawn which will be served with razor-fine cucumber, red onion slices, salsa negra and cracked chillies with totopos.
On the taco front, options will include:
- Suadero - confit brisket with coriander and salsa roja
- Carnitas - confit pork with pickled onion and salsa verde
- Nopales - cactus with caramelised onion and cheese.
They'll also serve up lamb birria quesadillas and Gobernador, a taco with sautéed prawns, melted cheese and salsa roja.
So, for god-tier tacos and more, you'll need to hot foot it down to Centre Point as soon as they open for business.
