New omakase restaurants are quite the trend in London at the moment. Recently, we've seen the openings of Roketsu and Roji and now comes Mayha, an omakase restaurant that first opened in The Middle East.
It's from the Nothing But Love group, which started in Lebanon and who now have a number of restaurants in the Middle East alongside Mayha, including Meat the Fish, Maryool, and The Backburner. This is the first time they've come to London
They'll be taking over a two-floored space in Marylebone, just up the road from Chiltern Firehouse. The ground floor will be the main omakase space, all set around a curved stone counter. In charge of the kitchen are head chefs Jurek Wasio and Yuichi Nakaya, who have come to London direct from Mayha Beirut (they also previously worked at Yashin Ocean House and Yashin Sushi here in London). Their omakase menu will be sourced from local and Japanese suppliers with sakes, rare spirits, fine wines and niche beers alongside.
Head downstairs via a wrought iron staircase and you'll find the hidden courtyard. At the centre of that will be a scorched timber bar which they say will be looked after by a "bar team fluent in the art of Japanese bartending". There you'll be able to get pre and post-dinner drinks as well as order from the raw bar menu.
We'll have more closer to the opening, but it does sound like another promising omakase restaurant is incoming.
