Block Soho bring steaks, grills and a croquette happy hour

Having recently opened Maddox Tavern in Mayfair, the same team is opening Block Soho (it's in the space where Zelman Meats used to be). 

The big focus of the restaurant will be meat cooked over coals, alongside seafood and shellfish. The meat comes from Huntsham Court Farm and will be hung and aged in the restaurant’s own Himalayan salt chamber, while seafood is sourced from Newlyn Fish Market, home to over 100 fishermen.  

In charge of the menu are Executive Head Chef Stephen Boucher and Head Chef Arber Malaj and a taste of what's to expect includes:

  • Smoked pulled pork, sourdough toast, apple
  • English shellfish cocktail (with prawns & crayfish tails)
  • Steaks – fillet, ribeye, sirloin, beef rump
  • Baby back pork ribs with BBQ glaze
  • Grilled tiger prawns with chilli oil & garlic butter
  • Block fish pie with mustard mash
  • Dark chocolate tart, honeycomb crackling

Sundays brings beef, pork or lamb roasts and they'll be open for breakfast too, with the Block Full House, Crayfish Benedict and The Block Longhorn ‘hangover’ burger on the menu. 

As for the look of the place, it's been completely refurbished with a mix of booth seating, a large sharing table and a terrace too, as well as four seats right beside the grill where you'll be able to get close to the action. There's a separate bar space too, always handy in Soho, and we like the sound of their daily Croquettes & Cocktails ‘happy hour’ from 3pm-6pm which sees beef brisket croquettes and pig’s head croquettes paired with cocktails.
