Are you truly a five star hotel in London if you don't have your own in-house patisserie or plans for one? We've had Nicolas Rouzaud's The Connaught Patisserie at The Connaught, Cedric Grolet at The Berkeley and now The Dorchester is getting in on the act.

It's all part of a major refurbishment that the hotel's undertaking. They've carved out some space at the right corner of the hotel's entrance on Deanery Street for Cake & Flowers which is going to be a combo patisserie and flower shop that will have its own entrance.

Running the cake side of things is the hotel's new executive pastry chef, Michael Kwan, who was previously at Ladurée and Duddells. Kwan's cakes will include The Dorchester Rose, with rose and jasmine cream, compressed pear and coconut crunch, a citrus and orange Blossom Pavlova, with yuzu and bergamot meringue. He'll also have a signature seasonal cake, The Tree Cake, with flavours including cherry blossom tea mousse and sour cherry.

It certainly sounds like a one-stop shop for anyone needing to buy a present - the shop will also sell bouquets from florist Philip Hammond, a range of Champagnes and some posh chocolates too.
