Let's start this story with a 'don't shoot the messanger' plea. But a new restaurant is about to open in Mayfair with an offering that makes the likes of Sexy Fish and Novikov look like maiden aunts by comparison.
Miro has stealthily taken over the old Street XO site on Old Burlington Street and looks to open as early as this week (although the official opening date is next week). They've brought in chef Toby Burrows, who was previously at Elystan Street, and the menu is giving us 'cost of living crisis - what cost of living crisis?' vibes.
Press materials describe the food at Miro as "opulent, Mayfair interpretation of global favourites, with dramatic presentation." So their take on fish and chips is confit potato topped with fatty tuna with Japanese mayo and caviar. The cheese toasties are truffled and croquettes are stuffed with king crab and confit garlic. As for pasta, who wants lobster linguine when you can have caviar linguine?
But the dish that most column inches will focus on is going to be their sunken treasure trest. Costing a whopping £3k it arrives at the table with a kilogram of caviar surrounded by blinis, mini brioche buns, mini croissants and various condiments.
Even the drinks will be Mayfair on steroids with a list of rare and vintage cocktails with prices ranging from £500-£50,000. Fancy a martini? Here it comes in a limited edition Beluga Epicure by Lalique and with Almas Albino Caviar.
The group behind it are hoping this will become a clubstaurant (yes, that's the first time we've heard that word too) with DJs on every night and dancing 'encouraged'. We have to say, they've certainly got our attention. Mind you, if you've got all that money sloshing around to splash on a caviar platter, you might also want to think about donating to the Trussell Trust to balance out your karma.
