Here at Hot Dinners we've long been fans of Nourished Communities, whose neighbourhood store in Canonbury really felt like a game-changer when it came to showcasing local and sustainable food when it opened.
So we're particularly pleased to hear that they've now branched out with a second store, this time in Highbury. Taking over what used to be the Highbury Butchers, the new community shop is next-level for them, featuring an underground mushroom farm, a resident bespoke knife maker and several hives in the garden, busy making Highbury honey. The hives are a collaboration with their new neighbour, Cinnamon Village founder Soner Golbas who is an avid beekeeper.
If you haven't encountered them before, the original shop was set up during the pandemic to support producers that relied on Farmers Markets. They're champions of artisan food producers and also sell seasonal produce grown in Kent. You'll find Cobble Lane Cured charcuterie alongside Happy Endings ice-cream sandwiches and Estate Dairy butter. The new Highbury store will also offer plastic-free refills along with local vegetable box deliveries and there are plans afoot, once they have a license, to offer ciders, refillable wine bottles and more.
Well worth popping in if you're in the area, we think.
