31/3/23 - updated with more about the restaurant
The Olivier Award-nominated Alice's Adventures Underground is an immersive theatre show in the tunnels underneath Waterloo Station. It's been a big hit before and now it's back in a bespoke development called Labyrinth - and has brought a new restaurant and bar along with it.
First up is the restaurant, The Rosarium, which is billed as being "a twist on the quintessential English garden" with a touch of the surreal too. The menu there is run by Executive Chef Harvey Ayliffe, who has stints at Bentley's, The Ivy West End, Rules, Hix and 34 under his belt. On the menu is:
- Scampi scotch egg with asparagus soldiers.
- Woodland mushroom soup with truffled straws
- Ale-Braised beef mac with Montgomery cheddar
- Lentil and caramelised shallot pie
- Lemon meringue and poppyseed arctic roll
- Mad Hatter’s strawberry sundae for two
They'll be serving afternoon tea, of course. The sandwiches on that do sound rather interesting including tandoori chicken with raita and oyster mushroom bacon with avocado. That's alongside a lemon meringue choux bun and blood orange, dark chocolate and hazelnut madeleines.
The main show will change in the future - and when that happens, there will be changes to the dishes in the restaurant too.
As for the bar, that's Underland, which is huge, seating 220 people and serving cocktails based on the production and more besides. That will open later in 2023.
