The Scotch Egg Challenge returned after a two-year absence this week, with this year's competition taking place at The Guinea Grill in Mayfair. The judges themselves were challenged with eating and judging 17 eggs(!) in total in order to pick the 2022 winner.
And at the end of it all, Oliver Marlowe & Hugh Beatson-Hird from Fulham pub The Hunter’s Moon came up top. The judges were clearly dazzled by their creation, The Golden Egg. That was a Burford Brown egg in a sausage meat blend with cured foie gras, white truffle, seasoned panko breadcrumbs and topped with actual gold leaf. It was then served with truffle mayonnaise topped with shaved white truffle and whipped foie gras parfait. Even just reading that, we can see why it stood out.
In second place was Young’s Executive Chef, Matt Sullivan with a 28-day dry-aged lamb, anchovy, sorrel and Burford Brown scotch egg. And taking up third was Nokx Majozi of Holborn Dining Room with a spiced beef and pork egg.
If you fancy trying out that winning egg, you'll be able to find it at The Hunter's Moon for a limited time. Check them on Instagram for when it's available.
