15/6/22 - updated with the opening date and menu details
Robin Gill (Darby's, Bermondsey Larder, Sorella) is heading west for his next opening, Italian restaurant Maria G's.
This restaurant will be inspired by the chef's time in southern Italy and they're billing is as a relaxed Italian restaurant with British produce. He'll be joined by Executive Chef Aaron Potter (ex Trinity and Elystan Street) and an old friend of Gill's from the days of The Dairy.
Expect a seasonal menu here, with a focus on Southern Italian cuisine in the summer, and a Nothern Italy slant in the winter. Kicking off with a summer menu, dishes include:
- Pappardelle with Pink Fir Potatoes, Pancetta, Egg Yolk, and Sage
- Pappardelle, Farmer Tom’s Beef Ragu, 24-month-aged Parmesan
- Linguine ‘Nerano’, a famous Amalfi pasta dish made with fried courgette and provolone cheese.
- Cornish Cod, with Sweet Peppers, Green Olive, and Basil
- Grilled Herdwick Lamb with New Season Garlic and Goat’s Curd
- Beef Rib, with Grilled Tropea Onions, and Gorgonzola (for two)
And for dessert, there will be cannoli, tiramisu, pannacotta and more.
For drinks, the focus will be on Amaro, vermouth, fresh spritzes, highballs, and classic Italian cocktails - like their Amalfi Spritz with Cocchi Americano, lemon sherbet, fino sherry, orange bitters topped with prosecco. There will also be a largely Italian wine list alongside that.
As with his other restaurants, there will also be a big focus on low/zero waste and everything will be sourced as locally as possible. It's all in a new development in Kensington and they'll have a terrace opening onto the gardens during the summer months.
