He's already been popping up around London with his supper clubs, but now chef Akwasi Brenya-Mensa is getting ready to open Tatale as a permanent restaurant, housed in The Africa Centre in Southwark.
With a menu focused around Pan-African cuisine, Tatale takes its name from a Ghanaian dish, the plantain pancake. Dishes at the restaurant will be influenced from across the continent with Ghanaian references and informed by Akwasi’s own experiences and techniques. On the menu will be:
- Omo Tuo Nkatekwan Sesame - mashed rice with groundnut, peanut soup
- Ackee croquettes with a curry emulsion
- Berbere king oyster mushroom with jollof couscous, plantain, red stew and palm wine pickled shallot
- The Tatale Signature Chicken Burger 2.0 with buttermilk fried chicken topped with shito chilli, citrus yoghurt, basil oil (previously seen at 12:51)
- The Plantain Cheesecake (pictured above)
The restaurant and bar will be on the ground and first floors of the building - open to African Centre visitors in the day, but also as a standalone restaurant in the evening.
