Here at Hot Dinners we've long been thinking we'd love to do a trip to Derbyshire to visit Chatsworth (the alleged inspiration for Jane Austen's Pemberley in Pride and Prejudice). But it's a fair old distance from London and we just haven't got around to it yet.
Happily for us, the team from the Duke and Devonshire's estate are making the trip down to London instead. As part of the Jubilee celebrations, the restaurant at Sotheby's is switching to a menu using produce from Chatsworth such as the Estate-reared lamb and their own Bakewell Tart. There'll even be a taste of Derbyshire on the breakfast menu with Chatsworth sausages, streaky bacon and black pudding and Chatsworth Vintage Dark Marmalade, apparently a favourite condiment of the Duke of Devonshire.
"What we have done with this special celebratory menu," says Sotheby’s Head Chef Myles Fensom "is take the best of British produce, give it a little nudge and a little bit of love, in order to create dishes that capture the spirit of Chatsworth, Sotheby’s and the Jubilee.”
Dishes on the five week long pop-up menu include:
- Stuffed Courgette Blossom, Peakland White, Pine Nuts, Lemon Aioli with mint
- Lobster Club Sandwich with Bacon
- Chatsworth Estate Barnsley Lamb Chop with Monk’s Beard and salsa Fresca
- Chatsworth Estate Cheese Selection and Caramelised Red Onion Relish
And if you fancy grabbing a taste of Chatsworth to take home with you, head over to Sotheby’s Gallery 1 & 2 Coffee Bar on St George Street where there will be a pop-up shop packed with goodies from the estate's farm shop like shortbreads, Yorkshire Rhubarb Jam and savoury biscuits.
