The people behind Tamila in Hackney, Chef Prince Durairaj and Glen Leeson (both ex Roti King), are heading to Islington for their next opening - The Tamil Prince.
They're taking over what used to be The Cuckoo pub in the middle of Barnsbury and are transforming it into a pub showcasing South Asian cuisine, which they say is underrepresented in the area (as locals, we'd have to agree). On the menu, a combination of small and large plates, will be:
- Snacks including Crab Soup, Dhal Makhani, Okra Fries, Onion Bhaji
- Spiced Chicken Lollipop with a selection of chutneys
- Robata Lamb Chops
- Grilled King Prawns in a 24hr masala marinade
- Spicy Grilled Chicken with Mint Chutney
- King Prawn Moilee or Butter Chicken Masala, served with Roti or Coconut Pilau Rice.
On top of that, desserts include Gulab Jamun and Shrikhand - a sweet dish of strained yoghurt and Badam Kheer with almonds and saffron.
The cocktails should also be promising, coming from Simone Pugi (ex-Bar Termini) and featuring Indian spices and herbs, plus they'll have both British and Indian beers on offer.
All in all, this sounds like an extremely promising addition to Islington.
