18/5/22 - Updated with the opening date
We only heard a few weeks back about the closure of Flor in Borough (although they do still have their bakery in Bermondsey) but a replacement has been lined up already. Flor was backed by JKS so it's no real surprise to see another JKS restaurant is poised to fill the gap, Berenjak.
Berenjak, if you're unfamiliar, is all about Persian-style cuisine with charcoal-grilled kababs being a particularly big draw. Their first restaurant was in Soho and the bigger Borough location will allow them to launch with a bigger menu.
New to Berenjak will be larger family-style dishes, including:
- Chelow Kabab Chenjeh - lamb fillet kabab served with ta-dig
- Baghali Polow ba Mahiche - a traditional feast of lamb shanks with dill and broad bean ta-dig
- Zereshk Pollow, a charcoal rotisserie saffron chicken with sweet and sour barberries and shirazi salad.
These will be joined by hits from the original Soho restaurant, an expanded wine lists, featuring wines from Israel, Morocco, Turkey Greece, Georgia, Armenia, and Lebanon and new cockails.
It's not the only time Berenjak has been in the news of late, as Dua Lipa recently listed it as one of her favourite restaurants in London - so they're definitely going to need the extra space.
