Chef Abby Lee's first foray into the restaurant world, Mambow, didn't have the best timing, opening in Spitalfields just weeks before the first lockdown. But now she's ready to hit the ground running with her second attempt, this time in Peckham.
Lee is opening at Market Stalls in Peckham (in the same place as Forza Wine) where she'll have a space on the building's ground floor to serve up her fresh approach to Malaysian food. The chef will bring a range of culinary inspirations to her cooking, from her childhood in Singapore and Malaysia to her first restaurant job at the Michelin-starred Pashà Ristorante in Italy.
We're told to expect Nyonya dishes on the menu which is "a cuisine which blends Chinese cooking ingredients and recipes with Indo-Malay flavours." As to what that'll translate to on the menu there'll be:
- The M Wing - brined, and deep-fried chicken wing in an anchovy sambal and served with lime
- Lor Bak - deep-fried five spice pork and prawn rolls in a bean curd skin
- Gulai Nangka - a mild yellow coconut curry with jackfruit topped with fried aromatics
Locals looking for a new lunchtime spot to hit up will be able to drop in for a bowl of Nasi Lemak along with a lunchtime-only Hainanese Chicken Sando.
To go along with the food, Les Caves de Pyrene have come up with an all-natural wine list that'll be served along with Chang Beer and soft drinks.
