A Hot Dinners exclusive
Back during the days of social distancing, The Guinea in Mayfair made the clever decision to take over an old Pizza Express site across the road from the pub, to expand their dining space.
Now, as the time they have with the site draws to a close, they've decided to have a little fun with the space. To that end, this week they're soft-launching Upstairs at 23 in the building's first-floor dining room. Running on Thursday and Friday nights, they'll be serving up a set menu for dinner, celebrating British seasonal produce. Head chef Thiago Sue Brigid will head up the new kitchen with Vik Seppanen, alongside pastry chef Ghiles Ousmail (who won the Pate en Croute competition held at Maison Francois this year) and their baker Asha Sumroy.
Manager Oisin Rogers explained to Hot Dinners - "The five-course menu will change daily depending on the chefs in charge and the best and most interesting produce available from our butcher, fishmonger and fruit and veg supplier."
Dishes on the menu include
- Asparagus Thermidor
- Veal Porterhouse with Brewis sauce
- Salmon Wellington
- Chocolate and Guinness arctic roll
"We don't know how long we will have 23," says Oisin, "but we are hopeful that we will still have it until the autumn." Looks like you should hotfoot it down to try out this not-so-secret Mayfair supperclub before word gets out.
