A Hot Dinners exclusive
During lockdown, residents of Highbury and Finsbury Park were sustained in part by a local business, The Roost, serving up superlative rotisserie chicken deliveries. The business has been going great guns since then and, next month, will open its first proper restaurant in Finsbury Park.
Taking over the old Exquisite site, they're going to be serving up their brined, rubbed rotisserie chickens for dine-in and take away. The chickens are free range from France as they're the right size to fit on the custom clay oven rotisserie. Alongside them you'll have seasonal ever-changing salads and sides including rotisserie potatoes cooked underneath in the chicken fat. There'll be lots of homemade sauces, plus a few guest specials changing weekly or monthly.
On the drinks front they'll be offering draught beer on tap from Signature brewery in Tottenham plus a limited wine menu.
Owner Anna Mylam traces her obsession with great chicken back to her time in Sydney where chicken shops are a massive thing. As she explained to Hot Dinners; "I got back to London, coincidentally when lockdown happened. That gaveme the opportunity to give the idea a go."
She'd originally planned to do takeaway only with a bit of counter seating, when this site on Blackstock Road came up. The building was pretty Tardis-like so there's room for a small dining room at the rear of the space - what they're dubbing their Roost canteen.
