Here at Hot Dinners, we've long been fans of the Holloway Road cheese and wine shop Provisions, which kept us well supplied in pâté and Dusty Knuckle potato sourdough throughout most of the lockdowns. So we're so pleased to hear that they're expanding, opening a second shop in Hackney.
"The second Provisions will retain many elements of our original concept," they say, "while also showcasing new products that we have been sourcing in recent years." The shop on Hackney Road will, as with the original, focus on organic wine and farmhouse cheese. But there will be a different selection here to Holloway. For wine there's a "strong focus on the South of France" with wine from Languedoc, Roussillon and Southern Rhone and the cheese will be from different producers, some never available in the UK before.
What we're most interested in is the idea of the weekly changing selection of sandwiches that'll be on sale, made using the ingredients in the shop. There will be a new special sandwich every month alongside two mainstays. There will be a "meaty" one made with sourdough bread with miso butter, mushroom, pesto, coppa, melted Comté and pickles and the vegetarian version will be flat-bread with homemade falafels, marinated pepper, fermented spinach, aubergine, caviar, lemony yoghurt and herbs.
it's a bigger space than Holloway, and that includes a large downstairs space that will be used for supper clubs at a 12-seater Chef’s Table (that'll be launching in September) as well as wine tastings and more events.
