The second stage of this year's Michelin stars reveal kicked off today (following last week's Bib Gourmands), when it was the turn of the special awards to be announced.
First up for London was Isa Bal, part-owner of Trivet in Southwark, who picked up the Michelin Sommelier award. He was chosen, they said "for his fascinating wine list and his passionate approach, particularly to lesser-known regions". Read our Test Drive of Trivet
Then we had the Young Chef Award 2022 which this year was given to three brothers Luke, Nathaniel and Theo Selby, who run the counter restaurant Evelyn’s Table in Soho. Michelin said their "infectious enthusiasm for their craft is a joy to witness". More about Evelyn's Table
And finally we had Philip Howard - of Elystan Street and Kitchen W8 - who picked up the Michelin Chef Mentor Award 2022. "A real chef's chef, Philip has also helped forge the careers of many other successful chefs." Read our Test Drive of Elystan Street.
"I’ve worked with some phenomenal chefs over the years," says Howard, "and it’d be unfair for me to pick any favourites. There are three, however, that I’m still working with that have been outstanding and continue to shine: Mark Kempson at Kitchen W8; Ben Marks at Perilla; and Brett Graham at The Ledbury, which has re-opened after a refurb, refresh and recharge."
Outside of London, Restaurant Andrew Fairlie got the Welcome and Service award, while the Opening of the Year was SY32 Restaurant in Aberystwyth.
Get ready for tomorrow when it's the big day with the 2022 new Michelin stars being announced.
