27/1/22 - updated with booking details
We've been waiting an age for Din Tai Fung to launch their Centre Point restaurant. So long, in fact, that they're getting ready to open another restaurant in the interim - this time in Selfridges.
Din Tai Fung will be taking over what was the Selfridges Kitchen on the fourth floor, and will be pretty big, seating 140 (more compact than their huge Covent Garden space, though). They will still have room for the space that showcases the chefs making their dumplings front and centre (which is quite hypnotic to watch).
Plus - there will apparently be serving robots! These should be the same that were launched in Melbourne - roaming robots with trays and a tablet ordering screen. We'll have to wait until the opening to confirm this.
If you're as yet unfamiliar with Din Tai Fung, they were a huge hit when they opened their first restaurant in Covent Garden. They've an extensive Taiwanese menu, but the real draw are their xiao long bao or soup dumplings. And yes, those more than live up to the extensive hype around them. We'll have much more details about the menu at Selfridges closer to the launch, which will have some exclusive dishes.
That's not all that's coming from Selfridges though - they will also be opening a sustainability-led Pizza Pilgrims restaurant on the same floor too.
