17/9/21 - updated with the reopening date
It's been closed since the very first lockdown, but the time is nearly upon us for the return of Black Axe Mangal - in a new form.
Lee Tiernan's Islington restaurant has been a big hit since day one and has been lauded by many (including us) as one of London's very best places to eat. Their squid-ink flatbread is among one of our favourite dishes in London and we also think that the grilled hispi with fermented shrimp butter is one of the very best ways to eat your greens in London.
The restaurant has made the odd reappearance in the past year or so - first as a pie and then as a fully-fledged meal kit. But the reopening is the main thing everyone's been looking forward to. Details are slim on the ground right now - but we do know that there will be changes afoot. In Prince fashion, they've confirmed to us that the restaurant (as teased on Instagram) will indeed be called FKABAM - aka the restaurant Formerly Known as Black Axe Mangal.
There's a new look to the restaurant, all gold murals replace the famed penis murals (although they do still have pride of place, retained in one section of the wall). The full menu is yet to be revealed but we'll add it here as soon as we can.
