Hackney-based fans of Koya will be very happy - they're opening their latest restaurant on Broadway Market (taking over the space where Twigs used to be).
Called Koya Ko, much like the short-lived version at Market Halls Victoria, this will act as a more neighbourhood version of Koya. We're told to expect a new take on Koya's udon and donburi dishes, all created for the new restaurant.
New to this location will be a standing counter, fitting in about eight people. So if you're after udon-on-the-go during your trip to Broadway Market, this should act as a way to grab a speedy slurp. There will also be more tables both inside and outside if standing and eating isn't for you.
it'll be open from breakfast, with new breakfast dishes including a Neba-neba-Breakfast with Japanese natto, pickled seaweed, pickled okra, onsen tamago, rice, cup-soup and also Triple Pickle udon with pickled plum, soy chili and pickled wakame.
From lunch, new dishes for Broadway Market include:
- Crunchy Spicy Yakko tofu with pickled wakame and crunchy spicy garnish
- Saucy udon with negi sauce and chilli oil
- KO Meaty! udon with slow-braised beef shin and chilli oil
- Curry-don rice with curry and soft boiled egg tempura
On top of this, they'll also have a kid's tray - that has hot or cold udon, toppings, seasonal vegetable sticks, apple juice and special kids' chopsticks (as well as ice cream sandwiches from Happy Endings). Good luck getting the kids to agree to the standing tables though...
