Promising loaves, if not fishes, the new Bread Ahead Cafe popping up for a six-month residency at Southwark Cathedral is going to be shaking up their food offering. From today, guests heading to the cathedral's cafe for sustenance will have all manner of carby delights to enjoy.
The bakery's founder, Matthew Jones, said he was "absolutely delighted to be opening up a new space at the Southwark Cathedral, just a stone's throw from our beloved Borough Market" and promised that the residency would "showcase Bread Ahead favourites alongside a list of new menu items."
The cafe, in the cathedral grounds, will be a daytime-only spot, serving breakfast and lunch. There'll be a Bread Ahead pastrami sandwich with giant pickles and mustard mayo in ciabatta along with their doughnuts and cinnamon buns. Come lunchtime that'll be supplanted with soups, salads and sarnies. There'll also be a short list of wines and beers too.
It's a neat closing of the circle for Bread Ahead who started with a stall at Borough Market beside the cathedral. Keeping it local they're aiming to source most of their ingredients for the six-month residency from the market's many traders.
