It's all go at The Department Store in Brixton. The beautiful old space which already has a members club and is home to Canova Hall is now unveiling a new section of the Edwardian department store space, the Department Store Studios.
Coming from family company architects Squire & Partners whose offices are in the building, the latest part of the old store to get a makeover will house shared workspaces and - crucially - a gorgeous looking new restaurant on the ground floor.
Bellefields bar and restaurant will serve up a modern menu inspired by Med-adjacent countries from the Aegean and Balearic to the Levantine basin. Joining the family firm is Head Chef, James Mathieson - who before this was at Bonnie Gull. Here's a preview of the menu:
- Grilled Octopus, Butter Beans, Spinach
- Pork Souvlaki, Tzatziki, Pickles
- Linguine Vongole
- Orecchiette, Sprouting Broccoli, Lemon
- Roast Butternut Squash, Baba Ganoush, Pine Nuts
- And for dessert, Karithopita, Baklava and Tiramisu
And with architects as owners, it should look the business - expect lots of marble and terracotta. There's also going to be a cobblestoned central courtyard space for alfresco dining which you can expect to be pretty popular, whatever the weather.
