Opening this month in the old Shep's spot next to Chick 'n' Sours is The Duchess of Dalston. And while new bars are a pound a penny in this part of Dalston, the provenance of this particular bar bodes well.
It's from the team who brought us Callooh Callay and Islington's Little Bat bar. They're going big on locality and community - which means sourcing local ingredients for their drinks and using the herb garden that's been planted for the bar on the building's roof.
Drinks include a Summer of Joy cocktail made with Patron tequila and Bermndsey honey, but we're particularly taken with the idea of the Aunty's Special featuring Slane Whiskey, Jagermeister Cold Brew, Vietnamese coffee and condensed milk.
As for food, "something particularly special" is coming - we'll bring you details as soon as we hear more.
