London's reputation as a staycation hotspot has just got an injection of pure West Coast glamour with the news that the Polo Lounge is popping up here this summer. The famous Los Angeles restaurant from The Beverly Hills Hotel will spend the whole of July and August on the rooftop of The Dorchester.
The Dorchester's rooftop space, which up till now has played host to a series of chef residencies, is currently being transformed into the Polo Lounge with its signature candy-striped decor and pink bougainvillaea flowers.
Lots of the restaurant's classic dishes will be served, and one thing that definitely will be on the menu is the McCarthy Salad. That's a chopped salad made with romaine lettuce, grilled chicken, egg, beets, tomatoes, cheddar, smoked bacon and avocado. It was created in the 1960s and named in honour of polo player Neil McCarthy who used to be a frequent visitor. Even today, nearly 600 of the salads are sold each week at The Beverly Hills Hotel.
Also on the menu is:
- Steak Tartare - 4oz Prime Beef Tenderloin, Classic Garnish
- Tortilla soup - Jidori Chicken, Queso Fresco, Green Onion, Avocado, Crispy Tortilla Strips
- Peanut Butter Cup - Dark Chocolate Mousse, Salted Caramel, Vanilla Ice Cream
As a live band plays, guests on the rooftop at The Dorchester will be able to order drinks including the Polo Lounge's classic cocktail - the Prickly Paloma, made with Tequila, Prickly Pear Grapefruit, Lime and Pink Salt.
