What: Apothecary
In a nutshell: Shoreditch izakaya
Summing it all up: Expect cocktails, sushi and DJ sessions from this Japanese spot in Shoreditch
The low-down
Named after its Victorian antecedents in the same building, the new Japanese venue Apothecary is bringing the Japanese izakaya bar energy to Shoreditch.
With part of the team behind it including Spiritland co-founder Dominic Lake, the new space just off Great Eastern Street will mix drinks, serve up Japanese small plates and feature live DJ sessions.
If you recall the building - it used to be Merchants Tavern - there's plenty of space for drinking and dining, and there'll even be a robata kitchen counter. The food sounds perfect drinking food - skewers, sushi, sashimi and Hirata steamed buns.
Cocktails sound on point too, with a distinct Japanese influence, - the whisky highball features Toki Whisky and Genmaicha tea and there'll be hot and cold sake with local and Japanese beers.
For when we're allowed to meet indoors en masse, the 22 space private dining room will be a fun space, with its own record player and sound system for you to showcase your own vinyl collection or pick from Apothecary’s in-house record library.
