What: The Wine Artist
In a nutshell: Italian wine bar in Highgate
Summing it all up: Top Italian sommelier Maurizio Titone joins forces with entrepreneur Marco Petrozzi for this boutique wine bar on Archway Road.
Picture, if you will, the idea of popping into a wine bar after work - meeting friends, tasting wines and generally having a lovely time. While that hasn't been possible for what seems like years, two Italians are hoping to bring that idyll to the folk in Highgate before too long.
The place in question is The Wine Artist, a boutique wine bar on Archway Road. It's the dream project of entrepreneur Marco Petrozzi and top sommelier Maurizio Titone. Titone trained up at The Savoy before becoming head sommelier at Osteria dell’Arancio in Chelsea, which is where he met Marco. Most recently he was Head Sommelier at Bocconcino in Mayfair.
The exclusively Italian wine list he's put together here sees prices range from £22.50 for a bottle of Nero d'Avola Terre Siciliane up to £89 for a rare bottle of the natural Umbrian wine Sagrantino di Montefalco Pagliaro Paolo Bea. And if you just want to pop in for a glass of Prosecco or Lambrusco, that's fine too.
On the food front, there are dishes like:
- Roman-style pizza squares
- Charcuterie platters
- Ox eye with black truffles
- Mixed bruschetta
As Marco explains: "We wanted to recreate a place where people could gather and enjoy one of life’s greatest pleasures, wine. During the pandemic, I had a realization. Food and wine always bring people together; it's one of the only things that will never go out of style."
While the bar waits to open, they're already selling wine online - you can head to their website to check that list out.
