Normally, the very idea of missing in-flight catering would be met with hollow laughter by anyone more used to cattle class on Ryanair and Easyjet. But, when that in-flight catering is Japan Airlines, we're talking about a whole different ball game.
Now, Daisuke Hayashi, the chef responsible for the food on JAL, and who is getting ready to open his restaurant Roketsu here in London (previously showcased at Brown's), is offering Londoners the chance to enjoy one of JAL's business class meals at home.
The Kisaragi Gozen meal, which is delivered in a special wooden bento box, costs £50 and looks quite extraordinary. It changes every month and is available alongside a full menu of dishes like bento, donburi, Japanese curry, sushi and chirashi.
It's a great way to get a preview taste of what Hayashi has planned for his Mayfair restaurant.
