What: Cafe BAO
In a nutshell: Everyone's favourite bao spot ramps it up with an all-day spot in KX
Summing it all up: For their fourth opening, in King's Cross, the folk at BAO have decided to switch things up with an all-day cafe serving breakfast for the first time and with its own bakery.
The low-down
Who cares about the C-word when we're bringing you news about the B-word? Yes the folks at BAO have given us the scoop on their much-anticipated King's Cross opening. The new restaurant will be a new all-day dining spot called Cafe BAO and the two biggest things you need to know is that this one will be open for breakfast and will serve up baked goods too.
On the all-day menu, you can expect a Hamburger BAO, Lobster BAO and Fried Chicken XO Butter Kiev. Desserts will include a flan version of BAO’s lonely man branding and BAOfiteroles served with Horlicks ice cream and chocolate sauce.
One of the best things about it will be the option to get bespoke baos made - allowing ultra BAO fans to commission their own baos for gifts, weddings or parties.
The King's Cross opening will see the launch of BAO Bakery Goods (BBG) which you can have to eat in the restaurant or takeaway. SO much on this part of the menu sounds good - like the Molten Chocolate & Salted Egg ‘Muffin’ BAO, the Salted Caramel BAO Cookie, and the Pizza BAO stuffed with meat sauce and cheese.
They'll also be doing sit in breakfasts for the first time - but that'll come later in the year.
Founder and Food Art Director, Erchen Chang, says, “The inspiration for Cafe BAO stemmed from Yōshoku cuisine, an interpretation of western food, seen through an Asian lens. After a recent trip to Taipei, Hong Kong and Osaka we realised we wanted to bring it to life.”
