The low-down
Question: what do you get when you cross a fishmongers with a cocktail bar? The answer, according to chef and restaurateur Ivan Simeoli is RAW (formerly Crudo). It's the latest opening from the man who brought Londoners Laboratorio Pizza and has worked with folk including Gennaro Contaldo, Oliver Peyton and, for a time at top Modena restaurant Osteria Francescana.
RAW, his new venture, is on Brick Lane and features a fishmonger and restaurant on the ground floor. On the menu there'll be a selection of shellfish and tempura along with small and large plates. There's also an enticing sounding Sea Bun section features options like:
- Fried octopus with crispy black cabbage, black olives and mayo
- Tuna tartare with burrata, caper mayo and spicy tomatoes
- Iced prawn with fior di latte, crunchy bacon and basil mayo
- Salmon and ricotta - with garlic oil, courgetti, iceberg and dried tomatoes
At the back, through a door you'll find a speakeasy cocktail bar - also accessible through a side door on Hanbury Street. Expect an intimate space with a moody vibe.
