What: Badger Badger
In a nutshell: Yakitori, board games and beer
Summing it all up: This new pub on Deptford High Street is offering a yakitori and fried food menu to go alongside a large selection of beers and board games
The low-down
There's a brand new pub in Deptford and it sounds very interesting indeed. Set up by pub veterans Calum McKinnon (Metropolitan, Drake & Morgan) and James Ross (The Nags Head in Haughton, Antic Pubs) the new place takes up a prime position on the High Street, mixing drinking, board games and yakitori.
The idea of yakitori as the focus came from McKinnon, who felt it wasn't reaching its full potential in the UK as the ultimate bar food. They've brought in Stephen Michael to run the kitchen, most recently the chef at Studmuffin in Pop Brixton, to create what they're calling a "bastardised Yakitori/fried food combination". That means a yakitori menu which includes:
- Miso-glazed salmon
- Smoked duck breast and charred cucumber
- Chicken and spring onion
- Courgette and pickled radish
All that will be on offer alongside other fried foods like chicken karaage, tare squid and, the one we really like the sound of, tempura broccoli and potato skins.
The pub will also be a workspace during the day and Tanuki Gaming runs their gaming room with over 100 board games to rent. So if you fancy yakitori and gaming - this is definitely the pub for you.
