During the pandemic, the Hix business went into administration taking Tramshed with it. But now there's a reprieve for the undeniably impressive building in Shoreditch as it becomes a space that mixes food, culture and co-working.
It's been set up by Dominic Cools-Lartigue, founder of Street Feast (Hawker House, Dinerama) and who created A Plate For London during the lockdown, feeding 21,000 people in need. He has brought together an impressive roster of names for the kitchen. Here's who will be cooking:
- Zoe Adjonyoh - (Zoe’s Ghana Kitchen) - with a menu of Ghanaian cuisine inspired by traditional recipes and featuring flavours and ingredients from across West Africa.
- James Cochran (12:51 and Great British Menu ‘Champion of Champions’) - with fried, jerk-infused treats
- Andrew Clarke (St Leonards) and Daniel Watkins - with smoked meats and plant-based dishes
That food will all be available in the main hall, which will seat 120 (with social distancing measures).
They'll also have a Friday night jazz and dinner club - Black Flamingo, inspired by the first British Black magazine of the 60s, Flamingo, which will also be hosting events for Black History Month.
There will be events in addition to the food. Upstairs, there will be food events, seating 40 around a kitchen counter - expect special collaboration dinners, wine tastings and more. Downstairs in the basement, there will be panel discussions and workshops.
And finally, it will also be a co-working space with booths, laptop bars and rooms with zoom conferencing options.
Here's what Dominic Cools-Lartigue has to say about the opening:
We’re lucky enough to have inherited such a wonderful space, and I’m happy that we can share it with Londoners looking for a safe place to work and eat during the day. The variety and diversity of our offering excites me, with Zoe, Andrew and James, that mix feels like the London I know and love.”
