Smoke & Salt sets down roots on Tooting High Street

smoke and salt open in tooting

What: Smoke & Salt

In a nutshell: Popular nomadic supperclub finds a permanent spot in Tooting

Summing it all up: Their food has been surprising and delighting Londoners for the past four years, but now roaming residency Smoke & Salt are ready to set down permanent roots taking on their first restaurant on Tooting High Street.

The low-down

For more than four years now, Smoke & Salt have been moving around London, popping up with residencies. We Test Drove them back in 2016 when they were in Islington and were mightily impressed with the food.

But it seems their nomadic adventures are coming to an end as they're putting down roots in Tooting. In two weeks time they'll be be opening in the old Dip & Flip site on the high street.

If you haven't already had the good fortune to try their food, co-Founders Aaron Webster (Dinner by Heston and The Latymer at Pennyhill Park) & Remi Williams (Craigie on Main and Deuxave) serve up dishes that are all about smoking, curing and preserving, saying it's a reflection "and re-imagination of the modern dining scene in London."

Dishes you'll find on the opening menu include

  • Smoked Chalkstream Trout - dehydrated tomato and blackberry vinegar
  • Roasted Pheasant Breast woodland mushrooms, porcini rice cracker
  • Savoury Pastel de Nata aged Cornish gouda, pickled onion
  • Roasted Comice Pear sweet hazelnut cake, sage ice cream

Drinks-wise there will be cocktails, beer from 40FT in Dalston and Friendship Adventure in Brixton and a small, but interesting wine list.
