Balans, who have a group of cafe bars across London, have amassed many a fan over the years, particularly with the LGBT community on Old Compton Street. So there was a considerable concern when it looked like the group might be shutting for good and closing all its seven sites.
But - all is not lost. Five of the sites will be reopening this week - the original Soho institution, Balans no 60 (first launched in 1987) on Old Compton Street, as well as No. 34, High Street Kensington, Shepherds Bush and Stratford. In honour of the Chancellor's Eat out to Help Out scheme, they're launching the special Rishi’s Porn Star Martini, which adds an extra shot of Champagne if you use the voucher. Apparently the porn star martini is by far the most popular drink at No. 60.
Alongside the lashings of Rishi's drink, the all-day menu returns, including "all-day dining classics and modern comfort food from a crowd-pleasing but inventive menu by Executive Head Chef Steve Wilson" who's worked with Henry Harris at Harvey Nichols 5th Floor and Richard Turner at Paris
