As recently as this month, the Greenhouse in Mayfair was talking about its reopening - flagging up a competition to win dinner there. But there have been rumblings about the financial status of the two Michelin-starred restaurant ever since its stablemates Mortons, Umu and The Square closed so suddenly back in February.
So it was perhaps not altogether surprising when the head chef Alex Dilling revealed this weekend that The Greenhouse, which originally opened in 2004, will not be joining other London restaurants in reopening this week.
In a post on Instagram, Alex confirmed the closure. "It is with great sadness I confirm the Greenhouse Mayfair will not be reopening."
The chef, who has been at the restaurant for the past two years, went on to thank and praise his team. "You are all incredibly talented and I am so proud to have called you my colleagues but more importantly my friends. I have no doubt we will all cross paths again...If anyone is looking for staff please DM me the position you are looking to fill and I will happily forward you a cv of one of these incredible talented people."
