Updated 13 May 2020 with Drive-Thru news
It's the news that a lot of folk have been waiting for. McDonald's today confirmed that it will be reopening its first UK restaurants within the next two weeks.
In a statement, the fast-food giant said it would reopen 15 restaurants on 13 May. They would be serving up a limited menu (no breakfast to start with for anyone craving a sausage and egg McMuffin) and would be delivery only. See the limited menu here.
"This week we have been running controlled tests to explore the safest way to reopen our restaurants," said the company's CEO Paul Pomroy. "We asked our employees for their thoughts, have incorporated much of their feedback and will continue to listen and learn. The tests have proven successful...Slowly, but safely we will return to towns and cities across the UK and Ireland."
Here are the first tranche of London restaurants to open
(Pro tip - if you think you should be within the delivery range and the link above says you're not - that might be because they're too busy - so check later, or another day)
We also know that they're planning on reopening 30 restaurants for drive-through in the UK and Ireland from 20 May. They haven't released details of where those will be yet, but they're planning on expanding this side of things pretty rapidly. A press statement issued by the company said: ""We aim to reopen all Drive Thrus by early June."
