8/4/20 - Update - after temporarily closing, the Darby's hatch is now up and running again.
Down in Vauxhall, Robin Gill and his team at Darby's are opening their hatch, having turned the restaurant into a baker/butcher/deli and wine shop in response to the Covid crisis.
"We have wonderful ingredients that we do not want to go to waste," Gill wrote on Instagram, "given that the supermarket shelves are empty we wanted to offer something to our locals who may be struggling to get fresh meals."
With an eye to safety first, they're asking that anyone coming down to get food "adheres to strict distancing in the queuing system outside. It’s easy and we will have it all mapped out, It will be contactless payment only and service will be through the hatch. Our team are cycling or walking here and following all government guidelines."
- Here's what's on the latest menu:
- Dexter beef pie (£18)
- Fish pie (turbot, smoked trout, monkfish & fennel - £19.50)
- Sardinian tomato and wild oregano pasta sauce (£5)
- Dexter beef and tomato ragu pasta sauce (£5)
That's alongside fresh pasta, sourdough, pastries that include a cheese & marmite swirl or a hot cross bun, fresh and cured meats, beer & wine and more.
"Things are looking up," says Gill of the new venture. "I can see a light at the end of a tunnel."
