Northern Thai restaurant Talad pops up in Chelsea

Northern Thai restaurant Talad pops up in Chelsea (with a permanent restaurant on the way)

It's not often we have an interesting restaurant opening to tell you about down in Chelsea, but new Thai spot Talad seems to be a welcome exception. It's what's being dubbed a 'perma pop-up' so the idea is that owner/chef Natalie Tangsakul has six months to prove herself to the good folk of Chelsea (and her landlord). If she succeeds, she'll get the place permanently.

Certainly it sounds like she should know what she's about - after all it's going to be a Northern Thai restaurant which is precisely where Natalie grew up. Not only that but she's built up her kitchen experience here in London, working at Rosa's Thai before deciding to launch her own place.

So for six months, to start with, she'll be serving up all manner of regional Thai delights like:

  • Fresh clams with basil chilli jam
  • Chicken and wild ginger masala Hung Le curry
  • Tum Lao Shiitake Aunty Penn papaya salad

Along with all this there's going to be an interesting offering of zero alcohol cocktails too. And, one month after opening weekdays only, they'll expand to weekends with a range of Asian-inspired pastries and breakfast treats.
