In a nutshell: All day NYC-inspired spot in Peckham
Summing it all up: The team that brought us Salon and Levan are opening a second Peckham spot. Larry's is inspired by the corner restaurants and delis of New York.
Promising freshly made pasta on-site and delights such as salt beef beignets, we reckon upcoming Peckham opening Larry's is going to do rather well.
Taking over the space on Blenheim Grove that was, until recently, occupied by Brickhouse Bakery, this all-day spot will start the day with coffee and pastries, serve up deli-style sandwiches for lunch and a sharing plates menu for dinner.
The team behind it already have skin in the game with popular South London spots Salon and Levan to their name. Larry's - like Levan next door - is named after 1970s DJ Larry Levan. As co-owner Mark Gurney explains: "It’s a naughty little brother: relaxed and informal. It’s the perfect spot for any occasion – a quick lunch, a glass of something natural and a bite to eat, or a leisurely dinner with friends.”
For breakfast and brunches, they're taking a cue from NYC's Italian-American and Jewish delis, so there'll be plenty of lox (smoked salmon) and potato latkes.
Lunchtimes will feature meatball melts, veal schnitzel with red cabbage remoulade and fermented chilli mayonnaise and salads too.
For the evening, things ramp up a bit. This is when you can snack on those salt beef beignets or 'nduja soaked focaccia. And the dishes on the menu will include:
- Devilled crab, brown crab mayo, pickled fennel, bruschetta
- XO cabbage with clams and house-made XO chilli sauce
- Pig’s head ragu with pappardelle and Szechuan pepper.
There'll be a very pared down drinks list - two cocktails, one beer and a wine list that's expected to change regularly, maybe even daily.
