What: Albie
In a nutshell: All day dining spot at the Hoxton Southwark
Summing it all up: Southwark's hip new Hoxton hotel may be going big on its rooftop seafood spot, but it also has this buzzy ground floor all day dining restaurant with a plant-based focus.
The low-down
A neighbourhood all day dining spot, serving up food influenced by flavours from the French and Italian Riviera. Generous bowls of handmade pastas, freshly baked focaccia, locally sourced meats and cheese boards and cakes made daily
For breakfast there's everything from brioche French toast and acai bowls to a full Egg section covering everything from the Albie's Full English croisssant stuffed with poached egg, sausage, black pudding, bacon, tomato and mushrooms to baked eggs with ratatouille and toasted sourdough.
All day dining includes a house burger plus smaller dishes like pizette and fries with aioli. In the evenings there's a short menu of modern med dishes - think crab linguine, chargrilled bavette with fries and mushroom ketchup, and sharing dishes including a veggie ragatoni with basil pesto, broccoli, broad beans and baked ricotta. In fact half of the dishes on offer here are either veggie or vegan.
Wines are priced pretty competitively - you can get a glass of house for just £5.75 - and there's a handful of boozy and booze-free cocktails on offer too.
