They first took over Walthamstow's Manze's pie shop (in the evenings only) for a pop-up last year and returned a few times since. Now The Jellied Eel are back in the same location for a permanent residency featuring their combination of cocktails and croquetas.
Those croquetas will be back on the menu (including Jamon Iberico, leek, chorizo, blue cheese, spinach and chicken varieties), of course, and they'll be joined by some new small plates thanks to Elena Smileva, who's joining the team (former owner of The Lacy Nook in Stoke Newington). With a Mediterranean influence, they'll be:
- Merguez Sausages with Hot Pepper Sauce
- Roasted Mushrooms with Garlic Butter and Oregano Pesto
- Sweet Potato Fries with Feta, Smoked Paprika and Chives
- Fried Squid with Homemade Green Aioli
They'll also be re-opening Manze's goods yard as their "cocktail garden" while the weather holds, with cocktails including Rhubarb Negroni, Blood Orange Margarita and a Chilli Pisco Sour. The cocktail menu will get overhauled for autumn soon.
And, of course, the pie and mash shop - running for 90 years strong and one of few left in London - will continue to run throughout the day.
