What: No.35 Mackenzie Walk
In a nutshell: An all day bar and restaurant with a waterside location
Summing it all up: This is the eighth bar from Darwin and Wallace and will offer food from breakfast until dinner, as well as cocktails, coffee and beers.
Navigationally challenged drinkers in Canary Wharf will be pleased to hear that address-centric bar group Darwin & Wallace will be opening its latest, No. 35 Mackenzie Walk just a stone’s throw from the tube station this October. It will be the eighth bar in the group’s collection, which also includes No. 11 Pimlico Road; No. 197 Chiswick Fire Station; and No. 32 The Old Town.
The standout feature of the latest opening sounds like it’s going to be the waterside location with an outdoor terrace for 130 people – when the sun is shining that will be not a bad spot to be at all. Inside there’ll be an big central bar with low counter seating and bespoke furniture and it’s all been designed by their long time collaborators Box 9 Design, with whom they’ve won Restaurant and Bar Design awards before.
On the drinks front, No. 35 Mackenzie Walk will be focused on cocktails, including Botanical Spritzes, Double Dutch sodas and tonics and fruity concoctions such as the raspberry sour. For anyone abstaining, there’s non-alcoholic Seedlip on hand as well as Fix8 Kombucha, Karma Cola, and coffee from Caravan.
Food is being led by Executive Chef Simon Duff, with dishes set to include:
- Kimchi Fried Egg with Fried Rice
- Blackened Chalk Stream Trout with peas and creme fraiche
- Smoked aubergine falafel
- Rotisserie pineapple with coconut sorbet and chilli syrup
On Sundays there’ll also be a classic roast menu, as well as weekend brunch featuring the likes of ricotta pancakes, breakfast tacos, and eggs Benedict.
