In a nutshell: Antipodean chef opens indie cafe
Summing it all up: Run by a Kiwi chef whose Sydney cafe championed the Flat White, this new all-day Belgravia space will serve up everything from interesting brunches to epic hot sandwiches and, of course, top-notch coffee.
The low-down
The former owner of one of Sydney's popular coffee spots, the Flat White Cafe in Woollahra and Madame Char Char in Surrey Hills, is hoping to bring a bit of Antipodean magic to central London.
LIV Belgravia is going to be an all-day dining spot which has taken over the spot previously held by Como Lario. Chef Damian Monley is hoping to provide a bit of indie excitement to compete with bigger brands in the area.
On the breakfast menu, you'll find lighter dishes like slow-cooked chai-spiced oats with amaranth, bananas, pecans, seeds, yoghurt and palm sugar. If you're in need of something larger there's a king prawn omelette with basil, Asian slaw, sweet soy, ginger shallot and sriracha and also ricotta hotcakes with cinnamon butter and berries.
Lunch dishes include:
- Roasted crispy pork sandwich (pictured) - with sweetcorn, rocket, apple, aioli and Nan’s relish
- 17 hour Wagyu beef brisket with Japanese slaw
- Crispy salt and pepper chicken in a soft roll with kimchi slaw and sweet soy mayo
As you'd expect from someone who championed coffee in Australia, they're going big on their caffeine offering. There'll be a single-roast from a 100-year-old Neapolitan supplier, delivered weekly and overseen by LIV’s in-house Italian coffee expert, and regular guest roasts from artisan brands such as Alchemy and Dark Arts Coffee.
Downstairs, they'll be serving up fresh, cold-pressed juices at a stand-up drinks bar. But for something with a bit more of a kick, there'll also be cocktails and wine.
Dinner is also coming - with plans to open for it later in the year.
