What: Paradise
In a nutshell: Sri Lankan in Soho
Summing it all up: A brand new Sri Lankan restaurant is coming to Soho with Paradise, taking over the space from Spuntino. Expect British and Sri Lankan ingredients in a menu that's inspired by the owner's childhood trips to Sri Lanka.
The low-down
If you've been wondering what is going to be replacing Spuntino (which is closing this month in Soho), then wonder no more. It's to become new Sri Lankan restaurant Paradise.
They've been testing the ground with supperclubs, popping up at Balham's Brother Marcus earlier this year - and now they're going permanent. It's from new restaurateur Dom Fernando, who wants to bring the cuisine of his family's home to Soho, inspired by annual childhood trips to Sri Lanka.
In the kitchen is Sri Lankan chef Charith Priyadarshana, who is looking to merge British and Sri Lankan ingredients in Paradise's dishes with much of the produce from local sources . The menu will include:
- Hoppers and kothu roti
- Mutton rolls with curry powder
- Curries that include slow-roasted pork cheek curry, aubergine moju, jackfruit biriyani, and cabbage mallum
On the drinks list will be cocktails like the Arrack-O-Lada with coconut cream and arrack, served with a burnt jackfruit and pineapple syrup - and they'll have a Tamarind Chilli Martini too. Wines will focus on small biodynamic and organic growers, regional styles and modern vintage wines.
As far as the look of the place is concerned - they're bringing in Dan Preston for design - they've been behind Kiln and Smoking Goat - and they're looking for "an intimate, warm yet raw space... Inspired by the chic bistros in Colombo and Galle"
