Humble Grape wine bar and shop is opening in Canary Wharf

2/7/19 - updated with opening date

What: Humble Grape Canary Wharf

In a nutshell: Waterside wine bar

Summing it all up: Canary Wharf is getting a next-level wine bar, open all day with space for meetings and a lovely waterside terrace.

The low-down

Canary Wharf workers are getting a new waterfront wine bar as Humble Grape get ready to open on Mackenzie Walk. Taking over the old Le Relais de Venise L’entrecôte site down at the water's edge, so it'll have a lovely terrace, this will be the group's fifth opening - they also have branches in Battersea, Fleet Street, Islington and Liverpool Street.

On the wine list you'll find 30 wines by the glass (they'll rotate these regularly) as well as more than 400 wines by the bottle. And there'll be focus on the wines from small family wineries that champion sustainable, organic, or biodynamic practices.

Of course where there's wine, there's food. We took a sneak peek at the launch menu and it all sounds great with dishes like:

  • Beef Short Rib Nuggets, Oyster Mayonnaise
  • Smoked Aubergine Dip, Rose Harissa, Buttermilk Flatbreads
  • Roast Cod with rainbow chard, fennel aioli
  • Smoked Romanesque Cauliflower with summer greens, spiced rice, coriander, mejool dates, almonds
  • The brunch game also sounds strong with everything from Black Pudding Scotch Quail Eggs to Crushed Artichokes On Toast with vegan aioli on the menu to please all folks.

They'll be open all day, kicking off with breakfast at 7.30am and running through to the evening. As always with Humble Grape places, you'll also be able to buy any wine you like to take home with you. And if you're looking for a new space to hold meetings, or a private bash, then they've got a private room for 16 guests along with another events space and if you book both together you'll also get a nice private waterside space for your group too.

I fell in love with the site as it has access to water and a large outside space, the first for any Humble Grape venue. Most importantly, I don’t feel there is currently any brand in Canary Wharf focusing purely on wine, especially the high-quality boutique wines that we offer. - Humble Grape Founder, James Dawson
