What: Pasta Nostra
In a nutshell: Old Street gets its own fresh pasta joint
Summing it all up: Two young chefs have brought their passion for pasta to East London, opening up this small plates and pasta restaurant which aims to do a few dishes very well.
The low-down
We're always happy to bring you news of a new pasta joint in town. After all, who doesn't love freshly made pasta?
Newly opened on Old Street is Pasta Nostra - it's a partnership between two 20-something chefs, Wilfred Mafham and Luca Cianti. Wilfred honed his skills at Michelin-starred Trinity and Bistro Union and Roman-born Luca is ex-Pastaficio and Restaurant ‘Ours’.
They're keeping the whole thing pretty simple, just small plates and pasta. They'll be making their own focaccia every morning and other starters include Burrata with pressed sorrel and cucumber salad or aubergine Parmigiana.
But what you really want to know about is the pasta yes? Here's a taste of what's on the menu:
- Tortello Carbonara with crispy cured pork cheek
- Orecchiette al Pesto with green beans
- Pappardelle Oxtail Ragu
- Fettuccine Amatriciana with 6-hour slow cooked tomato and cured pork cheek
- Gnocchi Puttanesca
- Fettuccine Bolognese
- Bottoncini Burrata with Mussels
- Gnocchi Vongole
If you're in the neighbourhood and looking to kickstart your day, you'll be wanting to know about their Espresso Bar where you can grab an Italian roasted coffee to go. And if you're after something to eat al desko, they'll be doing a £10 takeaway deal for a dish of pasta, house focaccia and mixed leaf salad.
