Rosa’s Thai Cafe Founder to Launch New Concept Hoh Sek

What: Hoh Sek

In a nutshell: A new noodle concept from Rosa’s founders Saiphin and Alex Moore

Summing it all up: Opening in St Katherine Dock, Hoh Sek will have a menu of Chinese-influenced noodle dishes as well as an evening menu of seasonal mains.

The low-down

Having found great success with the ever-expanding Rosa’s Thai Cafe, its founders are turning their attention to an entirely new concept, Hoh Sek, which is to launch in St Katherine Dock this July. Meaning ‘delicious’ in Cantonese, Hoh Sek is going to have a bit of a dual identity, operating as a more casual dining takeaway concept during the day and a slightly more formal sit down restaurant service in the evenings.

For Hoh Sek’s menu, Saiphin has taken inspiration from her time living in Hong Kong, where she moved when she was 18. The weekday lunch menu will be based around ‘Saiphin’s Six’ – six noodle dishes with Asia-wide influences such as ‘Red fermented tofu soup with flat noodles, prawn, squid, fish ball, water spinach & bean curd’ and ‘Pork noodle soup with rice noodles, roasted pork, long beans, celery, coriander, bean sprout & lime’. Noodles will start from a very lunch-friendly £7.50.

The evening and weekend menu will offer additional dishes from a seasonally changing menu of sharing plates, with exact dishes still to be confirmed. Saiphin also plans to offer a weekly specials board with some of her own home recipes, and will host one-off supper clubs and customer menu tastings at Hoh Sek.

Speaking about the new concept, Saiphin commented that "Noodles have always held a special place in my heart as it was my first noodle shop, which I set up when I was 14 in Thailand, that first started me on my career as a chef. Years later, Alex and I met in Hong Kong and we fell in love with the street food noodles there.”
